Travertine is limestone which overtime through geological shifting, found its way deep into the earth. As the water melted after the Ice Age it found its way into the earth’s underground aquifer system, and was absorbed by the limestone beds. Heated by the earth’s inner core, the water rose as steam and hot pressurized water to form mud baths and geysers such as “Old Faithful”. The rising hot water dissolved the limestone and brought with it granules from below. The mud beds then cooled and crystallized into sold stone called travertine. The inclusions in the stone are created from the natural passage of water into and out of the stone. Visit one of our two showrooms to see large and fully installed travertine layouts.
